This Saturday, November 25, my daughter Laura turns 4 years old. She wants a unicorn cake and lots of balloons. It’s hard for me not to have mixed feelings when, while I buy her balloons and look for unicorn decorations for her cake, I think of all the children in Gaza who have their birthdays this weekend.
How are they celebrating ? Who celebrates them? Where are their friends and families? Can they have something nice to eat?
This Saturday when I sing happy birthday to Laura and we blow out the candles, I will pray for all the children in Gaza who haven’t celebrate their birthdays since the war started.

في هذا السبت، الخامس و العشرين من نوفمبر، ستدخل ابنتي لورا عامها الرابع و هي تريدي كعكة عيد ميلاد بها وحيد القرن والكثير من البالونات. من الصعب ألا أحس بمشاعر مختلطة عندما اشتري اشتري لها البالونات و ابحث عن زينة وحيد القرن لكعكة عيد ميلادها وانا أفكر بكل هؤلاء الأطفال في غزة الذين سيكون عيد ميلادهم في عطلة الأسبوع هذه.
ياترى كيف يحتفلون؟ من الذي يحتفل بهم؟ أين أصدقائهم و عوائلهم؟ هل يمكنهم الحصول على شيئ حلو يأكلونه؟
في هذا السبت عندما نغني عيد ميلاد سعي للورا و ننفخ معها شموع كعكتها سأدعو لجميع الأطفال في غزة الذين لم يحتفلوا بعيد ميلادهم منذ بدء الحرب
