I watched holocaust survivor, Marione Ingram, on democracy now tell us that her heart is breaking because she knows what the children of Gaza are going through – she knows what you are feeling.
Her words felt like a jolt, because at that moment exactly, it dawned on me that the children of Gaza were collectively experiencing a violence that none of us can fully comprehend.
I understood this before, but now it materialised through her words for me – that you must be grappling with concepts that should have been beyond your understanding – with concepts that no one should be grappling with.
I can only imagine:
The concept of feeling abandoned by the world.
The concept of how is this allowed to happen.
The concept of why us.
The concept of the heroism you’ve had to show at such a young age.
The concept of injustice.
And, also the concept of losing a limb.
I, then, watched the amazing Neema Murhabo a Congolese filmmaker and activist explain, regarding the negative pictures being shared on social media about Congo; “…this is still part of the extractive system which was established during the colonial period and is still going on.
and then that affects our self esteem.
… your self esteem is low, it’s hard for you to project into the imaginary, and that makes you the best candidate for exploitation.”
True for the kids in Congo and true for the kids in Palestine.
So, I wanted to remind us of the importance of holding that mirror to the children in Gaza showing you how much power you actually do have – so that you can “project into the imaginary” a different world.
To all the children who lost a limb, we see you
we see you,
we feel you,
you are not alone
in a world that is ruled
by people who have lost
their souls
and because of that
they can only
imagine this brutal world
we see you
we feel you
and we,
we can imagine
a new world
we can imagine a
more just world
for you
and we know that you,
yes, you
will project
a new world
a more just world
for us

إلى جميع الأطفال الذين فقدوا أحد أطرافهم
لقد شاهدت ماريون إنجرام، امرأةٌ يهودية ناجية من المحرقة، تتحدث في لقاء تليفزيوني على قناة
وتخبرنا بأن قلبها يعتصر ألماً لأنها تعي تماماً ما يمر به أطفال غزة من معاناة ـــDemocracy Now
– فهي تعرف ما تشعرون به.
كانت كلماتها بمثابة صدمة لي، لأن تلك اللحظة جعلتني أفكر في أطفال غزة وهم يتعرضون بشكل جماعي لعنف وحشي لا يمكن لأحد منا تصوره واستيعابه.
لقد فهمت ذلك من قبل، لكنه تجسد ليَ الآن من خلال كلماتها – فلابد من وجود صراع بداخلكم مع مفاهيمٍ كان ينبغي أن تكون أبعد من فهمكم لها – مفاهيمٌ لا ينبغي لأحد أن يتصارع معها.
يمكنني أن أتصور:
مفهوم: الشعور بتخلي العالم عنكم
مفهوم: أن يتم السماح بحدوث ذلك لكم
مفهوم: لماذا نحن؟
مفهوم: البطولة التي توجب عليكم إظهارها في هذه السن المبكرة
مفهوم: الظلم
وأيضاً مفهوم فقدان أحد الأطراف
بعد ذلك شاهدت مخرجة الأفلام والناشطة الكونغولية نيما مورهابو تشرح لنا الصور السلبية التي يتم تداولها عبر منصات وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي عن الكونغو؛ “…لا يزال ذلك جزءاً من النظام الاستخراجي الذي تم انشاؤه خلال الفترة الاستعمارية ولا يزال مستمراً”.
ومن ثم، يؤثر ذلك على ثقتنا بأنفسنا.
… ثقتكم بأنفسكم متدنية، ومن الصعب عليكم أن تتخيلوا ما قد يجعلكم أفضل مرشحين للاستغلال”.
فالذي ينطبق على أطفال الكونغو، ينطبق على أطفال فلسطين.
لذا، أردت أن أقوم بتذكرينا جميعاً بأهمية حمل تلك المرآة أمام الأطفال في غزة لتظهر لكم مدى القوة التي تمتلكونها بالفعل – حتى تتمكنوا، ولو في الخيال، اظهار عالم مختلف.
إلى جميع الأطفال الذين فقدوا أحد أطرافهم، نحن نراكم
نحن نراكم،
نحن نشعر بكم،
أنتم لستم وحدكم
في عالم يحكمه
أناساً فقدوا
أرواحهم
ولذلك
يمكنهم فقط
تصور هذا العالم الوحشي
نحن نراكم
