Pienso en ustedes jugando en el Return Park, en el campamento de Malika, y escucho en mi mente sus voces, sus risas, sus gritos de felicidad y de júbilo. Los veo corriendo, saltando y tomándose de las manos, cantando y bailando. Mostrándonos que es posible transformar las fronteras y las buffer zones en espacios para el florecimiento y el cuidado de la vida. Su rebeldía de felicidad y de diversión me ha hecho recordar el día en que niños como ustedes transformaron el muro fronterizo que separa a México (donde yo vivo) de Estados Unidos en un parque, con balancines que atravesaron los barrotes de hierro para unirlos en el ritmo y las risas de un mismo juego que ese día logró interrumpir y agrietar la frontera.
Quiero decirles que en casa con mi hija y en las aulas con los estudiantes pensamos en ustedes todos los días, y anhelamos con toda nuestra fuerza el fin de esta terrible ocupación. En las calles en Ciudad de México hemos gritado sus nombres y marchado para honrar su vida y su lucha, y exigir un cese al fuego.
Aunque en este momento todo parezca oscuro y que el resto del mundo no hemos hecho lo suficiente, quiero que sepan que muchos niños alrededor del mundo, como ustedes, también son semillas de lucha y de libertad. Semillas de esperanza de que otro mundos sí es posible. Y les prometo que haremos todo lo que esté a nuestro alcance por cuidar y sostener esas semillas, y que aunque estemos tan lejos, aquí estamos también para ustedes.

الى اطفال فلسطين الرائعين و الشجعان
افكر فيكم و أنتم تلعبون في حديقة العودة في مخيم مليكة و أصواتكم و ضحكاتكم تتعالى بكل فرح ومرح. أراكم في مخيلتي تسرحون و تمرحون و تغنون و ترقصون يدا بيد مظهرين لنا أنه من الممكن تحويل الحدود و مناطق العزل الى أماكن نمو و ازدهار واهتمام بالحياة. لقد جعلني تمردكم السعيد و المرح أتذكر عندما قام أطفال مثلكم بتحويل الجدار العازل الذي يفصل المكسيك (المكان الذي أعيش فيه) و الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية الى حديقة مراجيح تخطت القضبان الحديدية بضحك و تناغم مماثل للعبكم الذي كسر الحدود في ذلك اليوم .
أريد أخباركم بأنني أفكر فيكم عندما أكون في المنزل مع طفلتي و في الصفوف الدراسية مع طلابي. نحن نفكر فيكم كل يوم و نتطلع بكل ما أوتينا من قوة لنهاية هذا الاحتلال الغاشم. ولقد خرجنا في مسيرات في شوارع مكسيكو سيتي منادين بأسمائكم لتخليد ذكراكم ومطالبين بوقف اطلاق النار.
رغم أن هذه اللحظات تبدوا مظلمة و صعبة لأن العالم لم يفعل ما يكفي لأجلكم أريدكم أن تعلموا أن كثيرا من الأطفال حول العالم سيكونون مثلكم بذورا للنضال و الحرية و الأمل بعالم أفضل. وأعدكم بأن نبذل قصارى جهودنا للعناية بهذه البذور ورغم بعدكم سنكون متواجدين لأجلكم.

To the beautiful and brave Palestinian children,
I picture you playing in Return Park, in Malika camp, and in my mind I hear your voices, your laughter, your shouts of happiness and joy. I see you running, jumping and holding hands, singing and dancing. Showing us that it is possible to transform borders and buffer zones into spaces for the flourishing and nurturing of life. Your rebellious happiness and joy has made me remember the day children like you transformed the border wall that separates Mexico (where I live) from the United States into a park too, riding see-saws that went through the iron bars and brought them together in the rhythm and laughter of play. That day they managed to interrupt and crack the border.
I want to tell you that at home with my daughter and in the classrooms with young students we think of you every day, and we yearn with all our strength for an end to this terrible occupation. In the streets of Mexico City we have shouted your names and marched to honor your life and your struggle, to demand a ceasefire.
Although at this moment everything might seem dark and that the rest of the world has not done enough, I want you to know that many children around the world, like you, are also seeds of struggle and freedom. Seeds of true hope that teach us a different world is possible. And I promise you that we will do everything in our power to care for and sustain those seeds, and that even though we are so far away, we are here for you too.
